The Ring of Beasts is nominated for a SAFTA

It’s official, Kingdom Kome’s very first short film The Ring of Beasts has been nominated for a South African Film & Television Award.

The South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTA’s) is the country’s most prestigious award ceremony and features the most prominent and popular work offered by South African filmmakers and entertainment professionals and The Ring of Beasts has been noticed.

“It’s beyond a huge honour for us as Kingdom Kome to have the diligent and exemplary work of our very talented cast and crew recognised on this platform. We’re grateful to the SAFTA’s for the opportunity and recognition. We share this nomination with every single person who contributed their time, talent and passion to bringing this truly powerful piece to life. It’s affirming news as we continue to develop and grow the world of The Ring of Beasts further.”

Cameron Scott, co-founder, Kingdom Kome.

Kingdom Kome released an exclusive peak showing footage from The Ring of Beasts, the only other public footage other than the trailer released in 2021 and it has people craving for the days when they can see more of this fresh and dystopian world.

The explosive and dynamic short film first drew attention with its opening at the prestigious LA Shorts Film Festival. Once it had finished its North America premiere, it moved on to feature in Europe (Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival), Africa (BAI Showcase, SAIFF) and India (Kalakari International Film Festival.)

It is worth a moment to honour members of our cast and crew who were nominated for further awards categories for other projects at the 2022 SAFTA’s:

  • Bonko Khoza (Zadinski), nominated for best actor in a telenovela as Mqhele Zulu in The Wife.
  • Rick Joaquim (DOP), nominated for best cinematography in a feature documentary for I Am Here.

“We’ve got so much ahead of us and this is a fantastic start to our mission to entertain, education and inspire through powerful stories. We’d like to thank everyone involved in getting Beast to where it is and to all those who have supported us from the start and to those who join our audience everyday. We love entertaining you.”

Kagiso Rabada, co-founder Kingdom Kome

The 16th SAFTA’s ceremony will be on September 2nd and 3rd and will once again be presented as a live, hybrid production but not as a public event just yet, despite the recent lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in South Africa.
